Earthworks · Slab prep

Slab preparation. Cut, base, set-out.

The bit nobody sees once the slab goes down. But the bit that decides whether the slab cracks in two summers. Cut to level, sub-base compacted, ready for the pour.

What's included

Slab prep is half the slab's life.

If the sub-base is soft or unlevel, the slab cracks. We compact it, level it, and confirm before the formwork goes on.

  • Site cut to depth. Set out, pegged, cut to engineer's level or standard 150–200mm depth.
  • Sub-base. Compacted crushed rock (CBR-tested if commercial), 100mm standard, watered and rolled.
  • Vapour barrier. 0.2mm membrane where the slab needs one (almost always).
  • Set-out + formwork. Strings up, formwork built, levels checked twice.
  • Direct hand-off to concrete crew. Same mob. No contractor swap, no scope gap.
